Tabletop roleplay adventure in a low-fantasy setting

Gameplay Setting

Welcome to the The Cut, an immense lowland basin formed by a meteorite that scoured the land eons ago.

This massive, cone-shaped valley has since been populated by the feudal cultures, social classes and political factions seeking wealth, power and prosperity in the fallout of this mystical, other-worldly event dubbed “The Skyfall”.

The Land

After generations of medieval warfare over the resource-rich remains of The Skyfall, the area has been settled into four main provinces in what is an uneasy political equilibrium.

The Maw

  • Ground-zero of the ancient Skyfall

  • Industrial heart of the region gripped by the iron fist of The Church of the Sovereign Saint.

The Choke

  • Dense megacity built around the mouth of the impact crater

  • Seat of power for the foreign Sovereign Regency.

The Midlands

  • Rolling hills and cratered mining basins

  • Under the purview of the various Trade Union Guilds

The Wilds

  • Untamed forests and vast, fertile valleys

  • Home to the ancestral peoples of the First Kin Coalition

The Cultures

Human

Foreigners to The Cut, Humans migrated to the region by sea after The Skyfall. Leveraging their renowned knack for warfare and their vast foreign coffers, they waged a bloody campaign claiming The Cut as their own.

Goff

The stocky, one-eyed Goff have held a presence here since long before The Skyfall. Their physical prowess and hearty constitution are well suited for feats of might and grinding, melee combat.

Shrike

A proud and ancient avian people, Shrike consider themselves the rightful heirs of the land. These cunning and skilled marksman are often treated with hostility and xenophobia by the ruling class.

Mantid

A strange, hermetic culture, Mantids are widely shrouded in mystery. These insectoid beings are adept tinkerers, craftsman and healers. They are rumored to have strange, regenerative biology.

The Factions

First Kin Coalition

A loosely-affiliated network of pacts and treaties formed between the ancestral groups of The Cut during the early struggles for power.

Trade Union Guilds

Amidst the grandeur of The Cut, many enterprising individuals, industrialists and tradesmen band together to protect their collective interests.

Sovereign Regency

As early victors of the many conflicts around The Skyfall, the royal court and military power of the Sovereign Regency has ruled the area with a near-iron fist for the better part of the last century.

Church of the
Sovereign Saint

Though often seen as a single, unified force, the Grand Pontiff’s ecclesiarchy and inquisitional army of The Church are more like co-equal branches of the Regency’s reign.
