The Setting

High realism, low magic.

Unlike traditional systems, that lean on magic for world building, skills and abilities, Mellow Quest takes a more grounded approach to its world.

Magic & Technology

  • In the Mellow Quest system, overt magic takes a back seat to a more grounded narrative with tinkerers and alchemists taking the place of wizards and warlocks. Though incredible and unexplainable phenomenon do happen, the majority of this world’s inhabitants live a real-world medieval existence.

Landscape

  • Though many unexplored regions still exist in the world, the majority of adventures take place in The Cut, an immense, resource-rich lowland basin formed in eons past. Much of the intrigue, story and strife in Mellow Quest center around this region and her untold resources.

Cultures

  • Far from the classical, high-fantasy worlds of some settings, Mellow Role seeks to tackle more tangible issues. The Cut features 4 distinct cultures, all angling for control over the land, her resources and their own destinies.

Time Periods

The land of The Cut is in a state of constant flux stretching forward for hundreds of years:

  • Early Era: The initial, unstable formation period of this region marked by tribal peoples, ancient knowledge and lakes of fire.

  • Modern Era: The secondary cooling period in which geological stability is traded for cultural infighting, warfare and conquest.

  • Postmodern Era: The late, established period in which the forces of humanity reign supreme, to the detriment of all other inhabitants.
